Moving Away vs. Moving Toward

Something that shows up over and over in my work with clients is the difference in ways each individual is motivated to make a shift. The two basic ways that people appear to choose change is by moving away from what they don’t want, or by moving toward what they do want.

It might seem easier at times to focus on what we don’t want. Getting clear about what isn’t working has its benefits. We can become more aware of our healthy boundaries and bring perspective to a situation. However, when we have a habit of making shifts because things become so painful that we’re driven to take action, we might consider whether the stress involved is worth the possible payoff. Plus, it's important to remember that what we focus on gets bigger in our lives... As the Huna principle puts it, “energy flows where attention goes”.

When, on the other hand, we put our attention onto what we do want, that begins to show up in our lives. Motivation can become inspiration. So, to begin manifesting more positive in your life, first get clear about what feels good to you. What do you love? What is it that draws you? Then begin imagining it, and in great detail using all your senses, the way it would look, feel like, sound like, taste like and smell like. Fully step into it, as though you are in your body and it is already here. Passionately enjoy the experience! The enjoyment part is a big key... It's like adding fertilizer to the seeds you're planting. You need not think about how your dream will manifest, just focus on the 'whats' and be in the tone of what you love. Lo and behold, you’ll notice that it won’t take long to turn up in your life!
